Company History
Safeway Security Systems was born out of a sense of need in 1993. Safeway Electric, our sister company, was founded in 1980. The construction process in California often requires that the electrical contractor be responsible (subcontract) low-voltage systems. After experiencing difficulties getting the job done right and on-time while working with many of the area’s alarm and low-voltage systems contractors, we made the decision to develop a sister company to provide these services.
In 1993, we founded Progressive Systems Company(changed name in 2005 to Safeway Security Systems). Progressive Systems began life as a low-voltage systems contractor providing design and installation of large-scale security, fire alarm, CCTV and access control systems to fellow contractors and institutional clients.
In 1997, we incorporated using the name Dantim, Inc. for the corporate parent of Progressive Systems Company.
In 1999, we were awarded the regional Gamewell Worldwide Fire Alarm Distributorship. Gamewell is well-known in the fire alarm industry as leader. They brought fire alarm to the United States, installing the first system in Boston in 1851.
Also in 1999 and 2000, we added both Galaxy and Checkpoint Distributorships to serve the growing need for access control services in our area.
In 2001, we acquired the coveted UL-Listing as Fire Alarm Designers and Installers. This listing with Underwriters Laboratories allows us to provide fire alarm systems to the most demanding customers such as banks, schools and other public venues. This is an achievement we are proud of. It requires a deputy from UL to personally review our projects, our office, and our procedures to ensure that we meet the stringent criteria set forth to support this listing.
Over the years, the Inland Empire has embraced us. We have become an industry leader in the low-voltage systems design and installation arena. Our growth brought us to realize the need to expand our product line to include general alarm company services to the Inland Empire’s homes and businesses.
In 2005, we changed our name from Progressive Systems to Safeway Security Systems to capitalize on a shared marketing campaign with Safeway Electric. Also in 2005, we changed our corporate name from Dantim, Inc. to Safeway Building Services, Inc. Today, we serve the Inland Empire as a complete alarm company and low-voltage systems contractor. From a residential service call to ground-up hospitals, we are here “Building a Safe & Secure Inland Empire.”
