Company
Safeway Building Services, Inc. is celebrating its 30 year anniversary in 2010! From its beginnings in 1980 as an electrical contracting company, Safeway has expanded over the decades to include alarm/systems integration and solar systems.
The company serves Southern California commercial, industrial and residential clients from its base in the Inland Empire. The company has a wide range of professional licenses, including a C-46, solar photovoltaic license and affiliations with leading manufacturers.
Safeway has also invested in state-of-the art tools such as CAD systems in order to provide in-house design services. Equipment investments in boom trucks and heavy equipment allow the company to provide extensive services for commercial and industrial clients including underground dry utilities and high-reach lighting and alarm services.
The company was founded by Dan Scherneck, who began as an electrical apprentice, worked as an electrical superintendent for an Inland Empire electrical contractor specializing in building ground-up large retail stores before starting out on his own. Dan remains the company owner/operator today, 30 years later.
Dan obtained a Construction Management certificate from Cal Poly Pomona. After acquiring a B license as a General Building contractor in 1996 Dan founded DND Construction, which was later renamed Safeway Construction. Today, Safeway Construction maintains local area hospitals on a day-to-day basis .
Safeway Electric
Dan founded Safeway Electric in 1980 upon receiving his C-10 Electrical Contractor license. His mission was to serve the commercial and industrial communities of the Inland Empire in Southern California.
With 30 years of experience in the electrical contracting industry, the company has grown to become one of the leading electrical merit shops in Southern California through a solid work ethic and the pride that comes with a commitment to complete projects on-time and within budget.
The company has expanded its electrical capabilities over the years to serve specialized skill clients such as medical facilities and high-technology companies, and general commercial, industrial, and municipal clients as well as residential clients.
Safeway Security Systems
Safeway Security Systems was founded as Progressive Systems in 1993, initially in order to support Safeway Electric. The construction process in California often requires that the electrical contractor be responsible (subcontract) low-voltage systems. After experiencing difficulties getting the job done right and on time while working with many of the area's alarm and low-voltage systems contractors, the company decided to develop a sister company to provide these services.
Safeway Security Systems started as a low-voltage systems contractor providing fire alarm, access control, CCTV, voice/data, nurse call and security to the area's commercial, industrial and public works markets.
In 1999, Safeway Security Systems was awarded the regional Gamewell Worldwide Fire Alarm distributorship. Gamewell is well known in the fire alarm industry as a leading manufacturer. They brought fire alarm to the United States, installing the first system in Boston in 1851. Gamewell is now Gamewell-FCI.
Also in 1999 and 2000, the company added Galaxy and Checkpoint, which is now Sielox distributorships to serve the growing need for access control services in our area.
In 2001, Safeway Security Systems earned the coveted UL-Listing as Fire Alarm Designers and Installers. This listing with Underwriters Laboratories allows us to provide fire alarm systems to the most demanding customers such as hospitals, banks, schools and other public venues. It is awarded only after an Underwriters Laboratories deputy personally reviewed our projects, our office, and our procedures to ensure that we met the stringent UL-Listing criteria.
In 2008, the company was awarded the Honeywell Commercial Security Systems Provider dealership.
Over the years, the Inland Empire has embraced us. We have become an industry leader in the low-voltage systems design and installation arena, with state-of-the-art technology and highly-trained personnel. We have expanded our product line to include general alarm company services to Southern California's commercial and industrial arenas.
Today, we serve all of Southern California as a complete alarm company and low-voltage systems integration contractor. From residential service call to ground-up hospitals, we are here "Building a Safe & Secure Southern California."
Solar
The last of the three major business units solar was started in 2009 when a C-46 solar photovoltaic license was obtained. Although we have completed many solar projects under our C-10 electrical license, the founder qualified for and obtained the C-46 license as an example to our clients that we continue to stay abreast of all the latest technology and licensing needed.
